Our Story
They say that when life hands you lemons, the best thing to do is to make lemonade. When lemons landed in the lap of Nadia Bakho and Radim Konecny, they decided to trade them in for apples. The two have recently opened Too Sweet on Marine Avenue, Balboa Island’s main thoroughfare. It wasn’t the original plan; their subleased space adjacent to their successful Tutti Frutti frozen yogurt shop had been empty for a year, and finally the two entrepreneurs decided to take the leap. They completed their due diligence about what would be the best business to add to Balboa Island’s unique character, and Nadia’s love for caramel apples and chocolate proved to be the right choice. Nadia and Radim wanted to be sure that their shop would allow customers to buy a delicious treat for a reasonable price. Once they had their plan, the pair set about creating a warm and inviting retail shop for their brainchild, Too Sweet, which opened its doors on September 19, 2009. Even if you are not a fan of frozen yogurt or caramel apples, the Tutti Frutti and Too Sweet shops are worth a visit, just to see the innovative interiors. Everyone is talking about the large glass wall that runs almost the entire length of the interior between the two shops, allowing visitors of either shop to see into the other. Many have commented on the decadence of Too Sweet—and they’re not just referring to the chocolates and other treats that fill the display cabinets, but also the rich, indulgent shades of brown that cover the walls, and the décor of the shop itself.
